ELIZABETHTON -- Dennis Alan Johnson Sr., age 63, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday peacefully at his home, surrounded by HIS family, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Seaford, Del., Dennis was a former resident of Greeneville and made his home in Elizabethton.
He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Dennis was retired from carpentry.
He was a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was of the Methodist faith.
His one true love was the love of music. He was a very talented musician, who could play any instrument placed in front of him. He also had a great love of classic cars and fishing.
He is survived by his wife: Norma Boyd Johnson; his children: Dennis Johnson Jr. and wife, Rosetta, of Laurel, Del., Angela Isham and husband, Tim, of Afton, Amanda Howlett and husband, Billy, of Chuckey, and Donna Tucker and husband, Raymond, of Seaford; his stepdaughter: Angela Henderson; his grandchildren: Jordan Anderson, Jacob Isham and Monica Isham, all of Afton, Ariel Luttrell, Chelsey Luttrell, Chris Howlett, and Breonna Howlett, all of Chuckey, Cody Johnson, Cory Johnson, Daryan Carr and Loghan Kachuba, all of Laurel, Brooke Tucker, Devin Tucker and Zachary Tucker, all of Seaford, and Kristina Forestieri of Laurel; his stepgrandchildren: Tiffany Richardson and Jessie Richardson, both of Elizabethton; his parents: Irvin Johnson Sr. and Janice Bowden Johnson of Seaford; a brother: Irvin "Buddy" Johnson Jr. and wife, Debbie, of Georgetown, Md.; his sisters: Carolyn Tingle and husband, Greg, of Delmar, Del., Nancy Lauer and husband, Ralph, of Seaford, and Marlene McGrath and husband, Sam, of Eden, Md.; his special friends: Bob and Joan Brown, Lyle and Saundra Garretson, Don and Rose Perkins, Norm Scott, Wanda Whitehead, Barbara Lotshaw, Laura McGuire and Kent Gardner; his special companion, his dog: Rusty; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
A ceremonial tribute service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Nathan Reynolds officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. prior to the service or other times at the home.
The family expressed sincere thanks the oncology department at the Veterans Affairs HospitalS in Johnson City and in Tampa, Fla., and Caris Healthcare.
