Died: Dec. 15, 2012

BELVIDERE, Ill. -- Robert L. Fair, 66, of Belvidere formerly of Greeneville, Tenn., died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at his home.

Robert was born April 26, 1946, in rural Greeneville, a son of Leona Ruth (Ragan) and Edgar William Fair Sr.

He attended Alden/Hebron High School in Illinois and received a degree in criminal justice from Rock Valley College.

In 1966, Robert proudly served in Vietnam alongside his brother, Kenneth, in the 1st Cavalry Division of the U.S. Army.

Robert served in law enforcement for the Harvard (Ill.) Police Department, Boone County Sheriff's Department, Cherry Valley (Ill.) Police Department and later as Director of Public Safety at Rock Valley College.

He enjoyed gardening and collecting antiques.

Survivors include his son: Todd (Janet) Fair of Belvidere, and their children: Amanda and Wyatt; brothers: Henry "Buddy" (Norma Biby) Fair of Capron, Edgar Fair Jr. of McHenry, and Carroll Fair of Belvidere; and a special friend: Gary Loofboro of Belvidere.

He was predeceased by his parents; sisters: Florence Stroup and Gladys Ross; brothers: Kenneth Fair and Loyde Fair; and his granddaughter: Hallie Elizabeth Fair.

Robert has been cremated. His ashes will be placed in the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery at the lower level of Monument Hill at 10:45 a.m. Monday. A military burial will be conducted by The Greene County Honor Guard.
