Ruby A. Pierce

Died: Jan. 26, 2013

FALL BRANCH -- Ruby A. Pierce, 84, passed away Saturday at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

She was born Oct. 8, 1928, in Greene County. She lived the majority of her life in Kingsport.

Ruby was a faithful member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church for as long as her health permitted.

She retired from Eastman Kodak with more than 40 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her parents: W.D. "Billy" Pierce and Rosie English Pierce; three brothers: George Pierce and wife, Mavis Jackson Pierce, Hugh C. Pierce and wife, Lizzie Adams Pierce Fox, and Cecil B. "Jack" Pierce and wife, Gladys Pierce; two sisters: Mary Nell Pierce Blankenbecler and husband, E.B. "Jitney" Blankenbecler, and Alta Pierce Carr and husband, Clifford Carr; a niece: Donna C. Pierce; and a nephew: Bernie Pierce.

Ruby is survived by her nephews: Freddie Pierce and wife, Susan, Gary Pierce, Bill Carr and wife, Susan, Jimmy Carr, and Johnny Carr and wife, Paula; nieces: Janice Carr Wilson and husband, Jerry, Cathy Carr Lowe and husband, Selmer, Nancy Carr, and Jean Tullock and husband, Cletus; several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and a special distant cousin: Matthew Jessee, whom she loved as a son, and his wife Christa.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Fall Branch, with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. The Rev. Donnie Bailey will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Brad Pierce, Wes Pierce, Matthew Jessee, Stacey Lowe, Eric Pierce, and Johnny Carr.

The family extends thanks all the staff at Brookhaven Manor and Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center's ICU step-down, Wellmont W-3 and Amedisys Hospice for the love and care that was shown to Aunt Ruby. A special thank you to Elizabeth Foutch and her daughter, Diana, for years of faithful love and care.
