ROGERSVILLE -- Carolyn Vernail Heck, age 79, of Greeneville, formerly of Rogersville, passed away Sunday at Life Care Center of Greeneville.
Carolyn was born March 31, 1933, in Florence, Ala., and was the daughter of the late Odus Young and Nettie Bruce Young.
She retired from McDonald's of Rogersville and worked at other locations including Mosheim and Greeneville.
She was a retired bus driver and had worked for the Rogersville Parks and Recreation Department.
Carolyn was a member of First Christian Church, Rogersville.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Edgar "Pete" Heck; and brothers: Clarence "CW" Young and Melvin Young.
She is survived by her daughters: Vickie Richards and husband, William, and Kay Heck, all of Greeneville (formerly of Sevierville), and Leisa Ayers and husband, the Rev. Tony, of Lawrenceburg; sons: Phillip Heck of Rogersville and Ken Heck of Knoxville; grandchildren: Chris Richards and wife, Katy, of Strawberry Plains, Carlene Stanton and husband, Daniel, of Chuckey, Kari Yingling and husband, John, of Knoxville, and J.P. Ayers of Lawrenceburg; great-grandchildren: Aaron and Patrick Stanton of Chuckey and Emerson and Cormac Richards of Strawberry Plains; sister: Macil Gooch of Florence; sister-in-law: Patricia Young, and brother-in-law: Gene Heck and wife, Nancy, all of Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family expressed gratitude to the compassionate staff at Laughlin Hospital and Life Care Center of Greeneville.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Broome Funeral Home, 513 E. Main St., Rogersville, with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Charles Reece will officiate.
A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens, 4159 Asheville Hwy., Greeneville. Family and friends will meet by 12:45 p.m. at the cemetery.
