Rita Sams King, 91, of West Main Street, Greeneville, died Sunday.
She taught school in the Greene County and Greeneville City school systems for 40 years. Following retirement, she was a substitute teacher as long as her health permitted.
Mrs. King was a longtime member of Mount Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she attended as long as her health permitted.
She was a loving wife and mother, who devoted her life to her children and her teaching career. She will be greatly missed by those who know her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years: E.C. "Jack" King, who died in 1999; parents: Ward and Maxie Drain; two brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include three children: Harriet Greer, Karen and Jimmy Moore, and Steven King and Alison Bird; six grandchildren: Lisa Jessee, David Jessee, Steven Jessee, Jesse Moore, Aaron Moore, and Josh Hixon; two brothers: Robert Drain and Quentin Sams, both of the Walkertown community; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Larry Woods will officiate.
Interment will follow in Cross Anchor Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Moore, Jesse Moore, David Jessee, Steven Jessee, Andy Bowman, and Jim Foster.
