Robert Hensley, 81, of Shelton Mission Road, passed away Monday at his home.
He was born Feb. 3, 1932, a son of the late Rev. Cleovis and Zora Hensley.
Mr. Hensley retired from the U.S. Forest Service.
He attended Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, as long as his health permitted.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He loved the mountains, fishing, spending time with his family and watching his grandbabies play and grow.
He touched many people throughout his life, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law: Priscilla Freeman and Pam and Bill Walters; four grandchildren and their spouses: Holly and Jerry Ricker, Chad and Misty Walters, Ashley and Timmy Thompson, and Carrie and Daniel Lloyd; five great-grandchildren: Megan and Brantlee Holt, Harley Thompson, Riley Walters, and Taylor Lloyd; one brother and sister-in-law: Barney and Eliza Hensley; one sister: Shirley Darnell; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; brother-in-law and his wife: Clay and Mary Belle Hensley; sister-in-law: Sophia Copp; and special friends: Andrew and Casey Holt.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Shirley Hensley, who died Feb. 1, 2007; one brother: James Hensley; and one sister: Edna Faye Ricker.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Union Chapel FWB Church. The Rev. Lynn Neas and the Rev. Jerry Hopson will officiate. Interment will follow in Greystone Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Ricky Darnell, Marty Darnell, Mickey Hensley, Danny Hensley, Dewey Walters, and Andrew Holt.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ruble Parkins, Laverne Hensley, Bill Dearstone Sr., Dr. Maynard Austin, and the men of Union Chapel FWB Church.
