Edna M. Nojeim

Died: Feb. 10, 2013

Edna M. (Nasiff) Nojeim passed away peacefully Sunday in Greeneville at the age of 85.

Born Sept. 23, 1927, in Syracuse, N.Y., she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Abraham Nasiff.

Surviving to cherish her memory are many loving people including her husband of 58 years, Richard, also of Greeneville. They were married at Most Holy Rosary Church in Syracuse on July 3, 1954.

Edna is also survived by her five sons and five grandchildren: John and his wife, Bonnie, of Groton, Mass., and their children: Mary and Mark; Stephen and his wife, Patricia, of Marion, Mass., and their daughter, Julia; David and his wife, Elizabeth, of Churchville, N.Y., and their daughters: Courtney and Emily; Gregory and his wife, Wanda Resto, of Silver Spring, Md., and Michael and his wife, Consuelo, of Tomball, Texas.

She is also remembered lovingly by her brother: Roger Nasiff of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; a sister: June Nasiff, of Syracuse; her sisters-in law: Julia Jiloty, Elizabeth El-Hindi, and Anne Saliba; five nieces; 10 nephews; and 31 great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Roslyn Mosconi, of Syracuse.

Edna graduated from Holy Rosary School in Syracuse and went to work in several office and office management positions as she raised her family, including Chester-Jensen and Floe, Inc., in Chili, N.Y., and Magnavox in Greeneville.

And, while she didn't have the opportunity to attend college herself, she took great pride in the 12 college degrees her five sons earned.

Edna was a devout Catholic and active parishioner and volunteer at Notre Dame Church in Greeneville. She loved to cook, and did it well, and conducted the mercy meals at the church for years. She was a member of the Council of Catholic Women.

Edna was an avid crossword puzzle and solitaire player, backyard bird watcher, and had earned the title of honorary lead instructor for arthritic aerobic water exercise classes at the Greene County YMCA.

She delighted in her grandchildren and enjoyed the company of countless, caring friends.

Her children remember their household growing up as the hub of neighborhood activity, with a large play room addition and the near-constant smell of Lebanese cooking coming from the kitchen.

They remember her as a very active Cub Scout Den Mother, the organizer of many fun-filled family vacation trips, and the tradition of homemade pizza every Sunday night from dough mixed in the wee hours of the morning.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by the Rev. Jim Harvey at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Notre Dame Catholic Church.

Visitation will be at the church at 9:30 a.m., one hour before mass. A mercy meal will immediately follow mass. The Knights of Columbus will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Notre Dame Catholic Church, 212 Mount Bethel Road, Greeneville, TN 37745.

Flowers and condolences may be sent to Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home, 1125 Tusculum Blvd., Greeneville, TN 37745.

Condolences may be sent to the family online at http://www.doughty-stevens.com.
