Died: Feb. 14, 2013

Velva Wilder White, age 91, of Highway 66N, Rogersville, passed away Thursday morning at Signature HealthCARE of Rogersville, where she had resided for the past five years.

She was a longtime employee of AFLCIO, working to establish unions in many locations.

Mrs. White was a member of Shepherds Chapel Baptist Church.

She was an avid quilter and rook player and loved flowers and gardening.

Survivors include one granddaughter: Penny Horne of Greeneville; three grandsons: Larry Horne Jr., and Matthew Cook, both of Rogersville, and Paul Cobble and his wife, Kristin, of Greeneville; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Jan Cook of Rogersville; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Maye Courtney and Nelle and Fred Diamond, all of Rogersville; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Dorothy White and Claude and Barbara Manis, all of Rogersville; several nieces and nephews; and special friends: Lucille "Pete" Renner, Lisa Dyer, Amanda Johnson, and Jennifer.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Roy White; daughter and son-in-law: Patsy and Charles H. Cobble; son: James Dee Cook; parents: Thomas J. and Byrdie Green Wilder; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Milton and Kay Wilder and Edmond and Mary Lou Wilder; and a brother-in-law: Buford Courtney.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home, Greeneville, and from 4-6 p.m. Saturday at Colboch-Price Funeral Home in Rogersville.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Colboch-Price Funeral Chapel following visitation. The Rev. Freddie Wilder will officiate.

Committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Wilder Family Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will Larry Horne Jr., Matthew Cook, Paul Cobble, Benny Dean, Eddie Wilder, Pat Wilder, and Ronnie Wilder.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Signature HealthCARE of Rogersville.
