Dr. Marvin Luke Dobson

Died: Feb. 20, 2013

CHATTANOOGA -- Dr. Marvin Luke Dobson, 80, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday.

Dr. Dobson began his ministry in Greeneville in 1949, preaching his first sermon at the Church in the Wildwood.

From 1950 until 1965, he pastored churches in Salem, Mohawk, Talbott, Pilot Knob, Fairview, Dover and Pleasant Vale.

In 1965 he moved to Chattanooga and, in 1969, founded the East Ridge Bible Church.

In 2000, he returned to Greeneville where he pastored Freedom Baptist Church until he retired in 2012.

He loved preaching the Word of God, and he loved helping missionaries share the gospel around the world.

He was predeceased by his wife, June; his parents, Ottis and Elizabeth Dobson, and sister, Mary Don Dobson of Greeneville.

He is survived by his daughters: Donna Johnson and Beth (Rick) Robertson of Chattanooga, and Marcia (Charles) Strong of Quakertown, Pa.; grandchildren: Rebecca and Melissa Johnson, April Stearman, Stephen and Jonathan Strong, Alyssa Korb, Michael and Tim Robertson, and Jamie Belko; brother: Alex Dobson; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Bennett Road Bible Baptist Church in Chattanooga.

Dr. Owen McCloud will conduct the service at 1 p.m. Saturday in the church. Entombment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens.

A memorial service for Dr. Dobson and his loving wife, June, who passed away Dec. 15, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Freedom Baptist Church in Greeneville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Missions Fund at Freedom Baptist Church, 202 Thornwood Drive, Greeneville, TN 37745.

Covenant Funeral & Cremation Service in Chattanooga is in charge of arrangements.

Condolences may be sent to the family at http://www.CovenantFuneral.com.
