Roger Vest, of Chuckey, passed away Wednesday at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was 65 years old.
Kenneth Roger Vest was a graduate of Chuckey-Doak High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
During the mid 1970s, he worked as a fireman with the Greeneville Fire Department.
Mr. Vest and his sister, Nell Vest, operated the Vest family farm, which began with their parents, Ollie and Easter Vest.
He is survived by his sister: Nell Vest of Chuckey; special cousins: Gayle Armstrong and husband, Joe, Dillard Vest, and Carol Vest; a host of other cousins; uncle: Burnie Summey and wife, Frances, of Evergreen, Colo.; aunt: Vada Mae Murray of Johnson City; special friends: Bobby Combs, Jeff, Tim, and Adam Milhorn, Mark Brown, and Robert Lee Shelton; and his constant companion: his dog "Speck."
He was preceded in death by his mother: Easter Summey Vest; father: Ollie Vest; infant sister and brother: Marilla and Lawrence Edward Vest; grandparents: Charlie and Lizzie Summey and George and Malinda Vest.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. today at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Rex Brown will officiate.
Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to Philadelphia Cemetery for the 10:30 a.m. committal service.
Pallbearers will be Larry Reaves, Gary Reaves, Paul Darnell, Rex Darnell, Mark Brown, and Bobby Combs.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Brown, Robert Lee Shelton, Tim Milhorn, Josh Milhorn, Adam Milhorn, Jeff Milhorn, Paul Solomon, Bobby Broyles, and the members of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter No. 42.
