ERWIN -- Clara Joan Clark, age 69, Unicoi, passed away unexpectedly Thursday at the Johnson City Medical Center.
A Unicoi County native, she was a daughter of the late Rev. William B. McNabb and Mrs. Pansy Tipton McNabb of Unicoi.
Through the years, Mrs. Clark had worked for Sears, was a model for J.C. Penny in the 1960s, and was a school teacher at Greeneville Christian Academy for several years.
Joan had owned and operated beauty shops in Greeneville and Unicoi County.
She had been a Sunday School teacher at Central Baptist Church while living in Greeneville.
For the last 25 years, she was a member of Marbleton Free Will Baptist Church, where she was active in various church ministries, including singing in the church choir and the church quartet.
Joan was a loving and dedicated Christian wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband of more than 50 years: Harlan Clark; a son: Tony Clark and his wife, Janice, of Unicoi; a daughter: Angel Dixon of Greeneville; two brothers: the Rev. Harold McNabb and his wife, Ruth, and Gary McNabb and his wife, Mary Lynn, of Unicoi; two sisters: Brenda Barnett of Unicoi and Deborah Miles and her husband, Terry, of Greeneville; her grandsons: Brandon and Tyler Dixon, both of Greeneville; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. today at Valley Funeral Home, 1085 N. Main Ave., Erwin, with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Tim Broyles will officiate.
Musical selections will be provided by the Rev. Harold McNabb, accompanied by Ruth McNabb on the piano.
Family and friends will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home to travel in procession to McInturff Cemetery in the Marbleton community of Unicoi for a 10 a.m. committal service. The Rev. Sam Ferguson will officiate.
Active pallbearers will be Gary McNabb, Stan Widener, Bobby Odom, Willard Leath, John Mosley, Mark Hill and Tyler Dixon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Clapa, Richard Tipton, Alan Bagley, Donald Bagley, David Hensley, J.M. Whitson, Greg Leake and Brandon Dixon.
