Leroy Bowman

Died: Feb. 27, 2013

Leroy "Hit" Bowman, 78, Afton, passed away Wednesday at the Johnson City Medical Center.

He was a retired school bus driver with the Greene County School System.

Mr. Bowman was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church.

He was a member of the Mount Zion UM Men.

Mr. Bowman was a U.S. Army veteran.

He enjoyed farming, the outdoors, and doing yard work.

He was an avid sports fan; he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play ball.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years: Janis Emmett Bowman; a daughter and son-in-law: Valerie and Jackie Roberts of Chuckey; two sons and daughters-in-law: Kevin and Joy Bowman of Chuckey and Brian and Cheyenne Bowman of Greeneville; nine grandchildren: John and Greg Bowman, Cadyn, Datyn, and Sylas Bowman, Jackie Roberts Jr., and Marissa, Hannah, and Breanna Roberts; sister-in-law: Dean Bowman of Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the son of the late Bert and Della Bowman and was preceded in death by four brothers: Everal "Poke" Bowman, J.C. Bowman, and two infants; and two sisters: Loretta Mercer and an infant.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with interment in GraceLand Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Charles Huff and the Rev. Kristen Burkhart will officiate.

The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service.

Pallbearers will be John Bowman, Greg Bowman, Jackie Roberts Jr., Tim Wright, Tommy Tipton, and Joe Bowman.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Mount Zion Men and the Chuckey-Doak Athletic Department, Clarence Ferguson, Maynard Emmett, the nurses and staff of ICU at Johnson City Medical Center, and Dr. Thomas Beckner and nurse, Allison.
