Died: March 2, 2013

JOHNSON CITY -- Roy Lee Forbes, 72, of Meadowview Avenue, Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord Saturday at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

He was a native of Carter County but had lived in Johnson City most of his life.

Mr. Forbes was a son of the late Mantey and Della Honeycutt Forbes.

He was an auto dealer, having been in business in the area for many years.

Mr. Forbes was a member of the New Life Tabernacle Church in Johnson City.

Survivors include his wife: Kathy Hulse Forbes; six children: Diana Tittle and husband, Kenny, of Watauga, Robin Denton of Johnson City, Greg Forbes and his wife, Sonja, of Mosheim, Tammy Williams and husband, Anthony, and Donnie Austin and his wife, Becky, all of Watauga, and the love of his life: Rose Forbes of the home; a sister: Lois Bryant of Sevierville; a brother: Hubert "Bud" Forbes of Mount Juliet; 12 grandchildren: Lindsay Bradley, Brittany Blevins and husband, Tim, Christina Johnson, Cassandra McDaniel, Scotty Williams, Rebecca, Kathryn, D.J. and Brianna Austin, Joe Tittle, and Brooklyn Boggs; four great-grandchildren: Nathan and Spencer Dugger and Cameron and Allisha Blevins; special friends: Mary "Volena" Newton and Phyllis Hathaway; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Ray, Jack and Dennis Forbes; four sisters: Hazel Harrell, Fannie Putman, Vella Helfer, and Bertha Honeycutt; a great-granddaughter: Audrey Dugger; and his children's mother: Ethel Jean Forbes.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Ave., Johnson City, with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. Pastor Larry Dugger and Pastor Truman Ferguson will officiate.

The family will receive friends other times at 280 Humphries Road, Watauga.

Family and friends will meet at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home to travel in procession to Fairview Cemetery in Jonesborough for an 11 a.m. committal service.

Active pallbearers will be John Bowman, Randy Forbes, Jason Byrd, Joe Hulse, Pete Guinn, David Brummitt, Mike Denton and Anthony Williams.

The family offered special thanks to the entire staff of the third floor of Sycamore Shoals Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion which was provided to the family.
