Born Dec. 2, 1926, Jay was raised in Greene County.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served as a Military Police officer in Germany after World War II.
He was a Gideon and a faithful member of Bartlett Baptist Church in Bartlett.
He had retired from the Shelby County Health Department, where he was an x-ray technician and a mobile health screening manager.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Norma Kilgore Jones, and a sister, Betty Stallings.
He is survived by his son: Jeff Jones (Jan Holden) of Bartlett; four grandchildren: Emily, Caleb, Ellie, and Ensley Jones; one sister: Mary O'Sullivan; three brothers: Ross Jones, Don Jones, and Lloyd Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home, Memphis, with Dr. Michael Priest, pastor of Bartlett Baptist Church, officiating.
The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the service.
Pallbearers will Caleb Jones, Patrick Holden, John K. Holden, Bobby Young, Brett Gehrs, and Tuley Lynch.
