Dennis Fred Shelton, 78, of the Horse Creek community, went to be with the Lord Friday at Laughlin Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Shelton was a member of New Haven Church.
He retired from Greene Valley Developmental Center.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was a very kind, gentle and humble man and never met a stranger. He loved the Lord and shared his Savior with everyone he met.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years: Betty Jean Shelton; daughter: Faye Shelton and fiancé, Scott Fillers; son and daughter-in-law: Winfred and Barbie Shelton; grandchildren: Johnathan and Miranda Shelton, Corey and Lesley Shelton, and Tori Shelton; two great-grandsons: Cayden Shelton, and Hudson Shelton; brother and sister-in-law: Ervin and Nina Shelton of Limestone; sister-in-law: Betty Shelton of Greeneville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friend: Norma Ricker; and his companion dog: Lucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Stokley and Vernicia Shelton; son: Gerald Shelton; and brother: Lloyd Shelton.
The family will receive friends from 2-7 p.m. today at New Haven Church. Friends were also received from 2-7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The Rev. Keith Williams and the Rev. Mike Mack will officiate.
Interment will follow in Horse Creek Church of God Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Gosnell, Larry Rader, Mike Norton, Bryan Norton, Jimmy Seaton, and Danny Ricker.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors, and his church family of New Haven Church, doctors Holladay, Prince, Priscilla Lynch, Thomas Beckner and nurse Allison, and the staff and nursing staff of Laughlin Memorial Hospital 4-West and Laughlin Home Health.
