Larry Ethridge Shaver

Died: March 10, 2013

NEWPORT -- Larry Ethridge Shaver, age 67, of Newport, went to be with the Lord Sunday.

Larry was a certified lay minister in the United Methodist Church. Presently attending Woodlawn United Methodist, he was a member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church in northern Greene County.

He was a veteran of the U.S. States Marine Corps, having served two tours in Vietnam.

Larry retired from Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport in 2006.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred C. Shaver, and mother, Ella Dean Clevenger Wood.

He is survived by his wife: Sarah Morgan Shaver of Newport; daughter and son-in-law: April and William Teilhet of Johnson City; grandson: William "Fisher" Teilhet; sister: Betty Lincoln Morgan; stepdaughter and her husband: Shelley and John Hammonds of Newport; stepson and his wife: Michael and Michelle Johnson of Dandridge; and stepgrandchildren: Max and Dixie Hammonds, and Mattie, Maggie, Michael and Mollie Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Baileyton United Methodist Church with a memorial service to follow at 8 p.m. Pastor Bill Rimmer will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Union Cemetery with military honors.

The family will also receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Woodlawn UM Church.

A memorial service will follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor Sam Dzobo officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Woodlawn UM Church, 306 Woodlawn Ave., Newport, TN 37821.

Manes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
