William West

JOHNSON CITY -- William West, age 83, of Chuckey, passed away on Sunday at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of Washington County, Mr. West was the son of the late Mallie West and Nelia Pate West.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Cleo West; two sons, Danny and Donnie West; four great-grandchildren, and one sister, Bertha Howell.
Mr. West was an electrician for the Johnson City School System.
He was a member at New Beginning Church in Limestone. He loved the Lord and enjoyed playing his guitar, while his wife and daughters sang gospel music.
He also volunteered at Greene Valley Developmental Center.
Survivors include two daughters: Jeanette Basinger and her husband, Gary, and Nellie Shelton and her husband, W.R.; two adopted children: Amber Klein and Autumn Smith; two sisters: Edna West and Bessie Britt; seven grandchildren: Chris Basinger, Amber Klein, Andrew Shelton, Robbie Shelton, Ashley West, Dale West, and Layla Whitehead; several great-grandchildren; and special friends: David Jennings, Maxine Randall and Dee Driscoll.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, 2001 Oakland Ave., Johnson City, with the funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the South Chapel. The Rev. Jonathan Jones and Pastor Cathy Fowler will officiate.
Family, friends, and ministers will meet at the funeral home by 1:15 p.m. Wednesday to go in procession to Roselawn Memorial Park for a 2 p.m. committal service.
Active pallbearers will be David Hall, Jimmy Hall, Chris Basinger, Robbie Shelton, Dale West, B.J. Tipton, Travis Tipton and John Klein.
The family expressed a special thank you to the caring doctors, nurses and staff at Franklin Woods Community Hospital for the wonderful care given to Mr. West.
