Died: April 5, 2013

Charles "Pop" Gibson, 82, of Wartburg, where he made his home with his daughter and caregiver, Kim Gibson, passed away Friday at Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center.

Mr. Gibson retired after 23 years of service in the U.S. Navy.

He was head chef for 10 years at the Camelot Room.

He will be greatly missed because everyone who knew him loved him. He loved people and people loved him. He always had a great story to tell.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law: Donna and R.C. Shuffler of Greeneville; a daughter: Kimberly Gibson and fiancé, Craig Freytag, of Wartburg; two sons and daughters-in-law Randall and Beverly Gibson of Johnson City, and Paul "Ted" and Tonya Gibson of Greeneville; grandchildren: Tia Foshie and fiancé Matt Stiefel, Megan Stell, Patrick Stell, Jeremy Southerland, and Cindy Higgins; two great-grandchildren: Matthew Foshie and Hailey Foshie; a brother: Billy Gibson of Greeneville; sister-in-law: Gail Herrin; his stepchildren: Chip Eades, Sherry Hollenbeck, and Mark Eades; stepgrandchildren: Brandy Cannon and Kris Hollenbeck; several nieces and nephews; and his extended family and friends from Greeneville, Wartburg, and Fairfield, Ill.

He was preceded in death by two wives: Jean Gibson and Juanita Gibson; his mother: Grace Nichols; and a brother: Bobby Gibson.

The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, downtown, with the funeral service following at 6 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Rex Brown will officiate.

Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home to go in procession to Harned's Chapel Cemetery in Parrottsville for an 11 a.m. committal service.

The Greene County Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy Military Honor Team will conduct a military graveside service.

Pallbearers will be Matt Stiefel, Patrick Stell, Jeremy Southerland, Mark Eades, Craig Freytag, and Kris Hollenbeck.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Bookhamer and Phil Haffcke.
