Died: April 27, 2013

Edna Curtis Purvis passed away Saturday.

She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Purvis was a career librarian and teacher in Kingsport and Sullivan County schools.

She was a member of the Sullivan County Teachers Association, and the Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority.

She was a past member of DAR Nolichucky Chapter.

Mrs. Purvis was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bird Purvis, on Jan. 23, 1983.

Mrs. Purvis is survived by one daughter: Ellen Purvis Abernathy and husband, Joseph, of Knoxville; two sons: Robert W. Purvis and wife, Theresa, of Rogersville, and Calvin B. Purvis and wife, Ann, of Kingsport; two grandchildren: Colston Robert Abernathy and Anne Elaine Abernathy; two sisters: LaWanda C. Baskette (the late Walter D.) of Kingsport and Jean C. Thayer and husband, J. Garland, of Gray; her special friend: Bill Griffin; a brother-in-law Col. Silas W. Purvis and wife, Doris, of San Antonio, Texas; a sister-in-law: Mary Belle Purvis of Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. in the chapel. Dr. J. Garland Thayer will officiate.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Lovelace Baptist Church Cemetery in Fall Branch.
