Died: April 27, 2013

James Robert Vaughn, 73, of the Stone Dam community, passed away Saturday at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Vaughn was a member of Stone Dam United Methodist Church, Lodge No. 3, F&AM, the Jericho Shrine Temple, and the Greene County Honor Guard.

He had served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Vaughn retired from Phillips Consumer Electronics and Bewley Properties.

Survivors include his wife: Peggy Payne Vaughn; a son and daughter-in-law: Mike and Mitzi Vaughn; a daughter and son-in-law: Carole and Brad Thornburg of Stone Dam community; six grandchildren: Tommy and Jane McLain, Andrew and Stephanie McLain, James Vaughn, Dennis Thornburg, Colt Vaughn, and Shea-Ann Thornburg; his mother: Molly Vaughn of the Rheatown community; five great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law: Johnny and Cindy Vaughn of Powell; a sister and brother-in-law: Betty and Bill Humphreys; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: J.H. and Mary Lou Payne, Bobby Payne, and Sandra Weller.

He was preceded in death by his father: Jim Vaughn; two brothers: Ira and Roger Vaughn; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service at Afton with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Vivian Franklin and the Rev. Richard Bowers will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. The Greene County Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy Military Honors Team will conduct a military graveside service.

Pallbearers will be Tommy McLain, Andrew McLain, James Vaughn, Dennis Thornburg, Colt Vaughn, and Bobby Payne.
