Dr. N.H. Dowden

Died: April 27, 2013

Dr. N.H. Dowden, DVM, 94, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Greeneville, passed away Saturday at Masonic Homes of Louisville.

Dr. Dowden was a veterinarian.

He was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Greeneville

Dr. Dowden attended Louisiana State University for his undergraduate studies and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University.

He served in the military during World War II. He was assigned to the Veterinary Research Laboratory at Fort Royal, Va.

Dr. Dowden spent more than 30 years in Greeneville and Greene County caring for large and small animals.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Pickering Dowden.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law: Alice and Bill Davis of Louisville; his grandchildren and their spouses: Alison and Jeremy Curtis of Louisville and Brad and Sunny Davis of Palm Harbor, Fla.; his great-grandchildren: Preston and Neely Joy Curtis of Louisville; a special niece and special nephew: Debra Blair and family of Jonesborough and Dean Wilhoit and family of Johnson City; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins of Louisiana.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. today at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 6 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Stuart Albee will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the committal service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity UM Church, 524 Tusculum Blvd., Greeneville, TN 37745.

The family expressed a special thanks to the staff of Masonic Homes of Louisville for the excellent care Dr. Dowden received.
