Sallie J. Pinkston

June 3, 2013

BULLS GAP - Sallie J. Pinkston, a long time resident of Bulls Gap and most recently of Highlands Ranch, Colo., passed away at her home on Monday, surrounded by her immediate family.

Born Sept. 19, 1925, in Hancock County, Sallie Jean Johnson married Howard W. Pinkston in 1948 after moving to Greene County.

She was preceded in death by Howard; her parents: Annie and Frank Johnson; siblings: Edith Webb, Marion Johnson, and Reece Johnson; and nephew: Larry Johnson.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Mike Dougherty; grandchildren, Alaina and Logan of Highlands Ranch; sister and brother-in-law: Agnes and Richard Simerly; sister-in-law: Polly (Marion) Johnson of Bulls Gap; nieces and nephews: Tony and Sue Webb, Mallon and Pam Simerly, Faye and L.G. Sauceman, Gary Johnson, Donna Brown, and many more from the Pinkston branch of the family.

They, their children and grandchildren brought her great joy throughout her life. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and cousin.

Sallie was devoted to Mountain Valley Baptist Church, her family, friends and Tennessee.

She loved her flowers and vegetable garden, good food, reading her Bible, sharing her faith, gospel music, her photo album collection, baseball, Tennessee women's basketball and sunshine on her face.

Her smile and laugh were contagious; her blue eyes sparkled when she spoke.

She enjoyed many friendships while working for NCR Corporation before retiring in 1990, and never met a stranger.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Bulls Gap Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bulls Gap Funeral Home with burial following at Philippi Cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Joe Christopher and the Rev. Dwain Brewer.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-60111; or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th floor, New York, NY 10001.
