James Oscar 'Doc' Hamilton

Died: June 16, 2013

"Another Warrior Gone Home": James Oscar "Doc" Hamilton, of the Caney Branch community, fought his final battle and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Father's Day, at Life Care Center of Greeneville.

He was a World War II Veteran and would have turned 95 in August.

He served in the 2918th Engine Dump Truck Co. with the U.S. Army serving in Okinawa and Hawaii.

He lived on the farm and farmed side by side with John Tate until John's death in 2000. At that time, they had farmed together for 63 years and he had helped raise three generations of children. All had so much respect and love for him.

He is survived by his loving family: Mary Etta Tate and Buddy and Joyce Seaton, who were his caregivers, Kevin and Kreston Seaton, Phil, Karen, Logan, and Ty Waddell, Lowell, Gloria, and Steven Tate, Lauren and Brady Weems, Eddie, Perry, and Alex Tate, and Betty Fletcher; two nieces: Mary Ruth Moore and Emma Perkins; numerous great-nieces, including a special great-niece and great-nephew: Brenda and Willie Anderson; a very special person: Annette Story and family; and lifetime friends: John and Sidney Barner.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, downtown.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. today in Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. The speaker will be Willie Anderson.

The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct the graveside service.
