Died: June 17, 2013

Michael Rae Bowman of Morristown, who grew up in Greene County, died Monday at Morristown Hamblen Hospital.

He was retired after 20 years of service with the U.S. Army.

Mike worked as a superintendent and binding manager at Quebecor (Kingsport Press) for several years.

He was a devoted husband, father, brother and had a great love for his grandchildren.

Mike was an avid fisherman, who loved the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years: Gisela Bowman; sons and daughter-in-law: Patrick Bowman and wife, Regina, and Jason Bowman; grandchildren: Parker and Grant Bowman; siblings: his twin sister: Pat Waddell and husband, Lyndon, JoAnne Cutshaw and husband, Hal, Donnie Bowman and wife, Freddie Ann, Norma Leonard and husband, Gerald, Conard Bowman Jr. and wife, Doris, and Ravena Whittenburg and husband, Ricky; brother-in-law: Eddie Broyles; sisters-in-law: Elisabeth and Hans Jurgen Schulz, and Luise Katharina Doerner; many nieces and nephews; special friends: Tommy Bowman, Willie Williams, Jane Thompson, Rick Burgin and Kenny and Sandy Renner; and his pets: Lucky and Lillie.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Ida Mae (Thornburg) and Conard Bowman Sr.; and sisters: Bobbie L. Starnes and Callie Sue Broyles.

The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Chapel with the Rev. Ira Junior Gardner officiating.

Family and friends will meet at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession to Andrew Johnson National Cemetery for a 10 a.m. graveside service.

The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct military graveside service.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Jason Bowman, Travis Waddell, Gary Hoese, Michael Troy Starnes, Ricky Whittenburg and Kenny Renner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lyndon Waddell, Tommie Bowman, Willie Williams, Mike Anderson, Don Dingus and K.R. Brooks.

Memorial contributions may be made to Morristown-Hamblen Humane Society or Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society.
