Died: June 18, 2013

FALL BRANCH -- Freddie Pierce, 68, Chuckey, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning surrounded by his family at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born April 4, 1945, in Greene County, he was a son of the late George E. and Mavis Jackson Pierce. He had lived in this area his entire life.

Freddie graduated in 1963 from North Greene High School in the first graduating class.

He retired from Philips Consumer Electronics after 35 years of service.

Freddie was member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church, where he had served as a superintendent, as a long-standing deacon, on the board of directors, as a member of the cemetery committee, and a Sunday School teacher.

He served on the board of directors for the Northern Greene County Churches United in Love Ministries.

Freddie was a loving and devoted husband, dad, Papaw Freddie, brother and friend who loved wood carving and anything involved with his church and family.

A special thank you to Dr. Charles Montgomery, the sixth floor staff at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, the third floor staff of Wilcox Hall, and the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care.

Freddie is survived by his wife of 45 years: Susan Rutledge Pierce; sons: Brad Pierce of Chuckey, and Wes Pierce and wife, Cindy, of Greeneville; granddaughter: Emma Daisy Pierce (the love of his life); siblings: Gary Pierce and Joan Tullock and husband, Cletus, all of Chuckey; an aunt: Margarite Jackson Noble of Montana; his mother-in-law: Mary E. Rutledge of Kingsport; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Rex and Laveda Jaynes of Kingsport and Greg and Sandy Smith of Weber City, Va.; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Pierce, several aunts and uncles, and a sister-in-law, Vicki Pierce.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch, with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. The Rev. Donnie Bailey and the Rev. Roger Free will officiate.

Special music will be provided by Janet Shipley and Dawn Wright.

Family and friends will meet at 12:15 p.m. Friday at the funeral home to go in procession to Bethany FWB Church Cemetery for a 1 p.m. committal service.

Pallbearers will be Lynn Johnson, Tim White, Mike Durham, Phil Durham, Ronnie Bledsoe, Randall Dickerson, Doug Gouge, Roger Jackson, Dommie Jackson, and Eric Pierce.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Maltsburger, Bobby Shipley, Cletus Tullock Roger Dykes, Bill Reed, George Darling, Johnnie Armstrong, the Renaissance Woodcarvers, and the members of the Men's Class of Bethany FWB Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany FWB Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Phyllis White, 1720 Foxtail Lane, Kingsport, TN 37660, or to the Northern Greene County United in Love Ministries, c/o Paula Tims, 6310 Old Stage Road, Chuckey, TN 37641.
