Died: June 29, 2013

MARSHALL, N.C. - Martin S. Gosnell, age 88, passed away Saturday at his home on Shade Branch Road after a brief illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Madison County and a member of the Middle Laurel Church of God, of which he was a lifelong member.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.

He was an avid hunter and loved to work as long as his health permitted.

Mr. Gosnell was a son of the late Milburn and Annie Dudley Gosnell. He was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Leonard Carson Gosnell; three brothers, Clayton, Milburn Jr. and Leonard B. Gosnell; and one sister, Anita Shelton.

Mr. Gosnell is survived by his wife of 67 years: Muncie G. Gosnell; daughter-in-law: Sonnie Gosnell; two grandsons and their wives: Glenn Gosnell and Lisa, and Chris Gosnell and Amanda; six great-grandchildren: Amber (Randy), Colton (Felicia), Autumn and Holdon Gosnell of Greeneville, and Makayla and Hunter Gosnell of Marshall; one great-great-grandson: Teegan Martin Jay Duncan, and one stepgreat-great-grandson: Kobe Lane of Greeneville; two brothers: Keith Gosnell of Marshall and Lewis Gosnell of Hot Springs; two sisters: Arlene Franklin of Marshall and Lucille Gahagan (Richard) of South Carolina; several, and all of them being special, nieces and nephews; some very special friends: Jana and Claude Cantrell, Neaple Williams, Debra Legard and Barbara Franklin.

A memorial service for Mr. Gosnell will be at 7 p.m. today in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Sam Adams and the Rev. Steven "Petey" Lloyd.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service.

His cremains will be buried at a later date.
