Joseph 'Joe' Charles Roper

Died: July 1, 2013

Joseph "Joe" Charles Roper, 89, of Greeneville, died Monday at Laughlin Health Care Center.

He was a retired employee of the State of Alaska.

Mr. Roper was a Christian and was a member of First Church of God, where he was very active as long as his health permitted.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Jolee and George Blevins of Greenville, S.C., and Karen and Hugh Crawford of Fall Branch; grandchildren: Robert Blevins and wife, Cheryl, Greg Blevins and wife, Kitty, Allen Blevins and wife, Shannon, Tony Crawford and wife, Cari, and Stephanie Lott and husband, Brad; great-grandchildren: Madison Blevins, Nicholas Blevins, Jake Crawford, Gracie Crawford, Libby Lott, Claire Lott and Sarah Lott; one brother: Denzil Roper of California; two sisters: Lenore Maurer and Becky Wolverton of California; a sister-in-law: Juanita Prince of California; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the son of the late I.J. and Minnie Bell Roper and was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Frances Lee Roper; a brother, Marvin Roper; and two sisters, Myrtle Metcalf and Thetus Sulser.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday at First Church of God.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 2 p.m. at the church.

The Rev. Stephen Aiken will officiate.

Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Locust Springs Retreat Center, c/o Connie McBride, 200 Bailey Lane, Greeneville, TN 37745.
