Herbert W. Unnever

Died: July 7, 2013

Herbert W. Unnever, 78, of Greeneville, died Sunday at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born Oct. 22, 1934, in Stamford, Conn., was a graduate of Stamford High School, and worked for Connecticut Light and Power until his retirement.

He married the love of his life, the former Marlene Perrenoud, who died in 2005, and moved to Greeneville, where they both volunteered at the Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Cecilia Unnever; sister, Virginia Northrop; first wife, Virginia Unnever; and brother-in-law, Peter Canzano.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law: Scott and Melissa Unnever of Plainville, Conn., and David Unnever of Simsbury, Conn.; a sister: Dorothy Canzano of Stamford; two stepdaughters: Donna Trexler of Knoxville and Yvonne Jordan of California; his grandchildren: Christena Unnever, David Trexler, Elizabeth Trexler, Jacquie Jordan, and Cindy Foreman; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law: Ellis Northrop; and his best childhood friend and his wife: Otto and Nan Haugland of South Carolina.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, downtown, with the Rev. Frank "Buzz" Trexler officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society, 950 Hal Henard Road, Greeneville, TN 37743, a passion of his and Marlene's.

A separate memorial service will be held for his Connecticut family.
