Died: Aug. 1, 2013

Freddie J. Bowers Jr., 62, passed away Thursday at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Bowers retired from the Greeneville City School System.

He graduated from Washington College Academy.

He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army after serving for four years.

Survivors include two daughters: Melisa Miller and Melinda Miller Conley of Nashville; two grandsons: Christopher Miller and Domonique Miller; three great-grandchildren: Nevaeh, Neiyah and Jaden Miller; a stepson: Keith Miller of Greeneville; two special aunts: Mary Barkley and Edith Campbell; a godson: Jabari Bowers of Johnson City; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Fred Bowers Sr.

The family will receive friends noon to 2 p.m. at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, downtown.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 2 p.m. in the downtown chapel with interment in Pruitt Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Billy Davis, the Rev. Rochel Maxwell, and Elder William Paste will officiate.

Active pallbearers will be Michael Woods, Alen Barner, Randy Barner, Rodney Meriwether, Michael Hamilton, Michael Rollins, and Bernard Clairdy.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Tates Chapel and Pruitt Hill United Methodist churches.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Greenwood United Methodist Church Building Fund would be greatly appreciated and acknowledged by the family.
