Died: Aug. 7, 2013

Pat Malone Rotan, 78, of Afton, passed away Tuesday afternoon at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and one of the teachers of the Beacon Light-Journey Sunday School Class.

Pat loved and played golf and enjoyed the people with whom he played.

He painted in oils and watercolors, played guitar, wrote music and had a fine singing voice.

He loved and enjoyed being a part of Greeneville and Greene County.

Pat was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Mary Rotan and Malone Robert Rotan.

He attended Oklahoma State University for a year and then served in the U.S. Army for two years.

After discharge, he attended and graduated from Oklahoma City University with a degree in geology. He attended the University of Oklahoma Norman completing a master's degree in geology.

He began his career with Mobil Oil Co. and worked several locations in West Texas on seismic crews. Returning to Dallas, he became an exploration geologist working in Bakersfield, Los Angeles, Denver, and Alaska.

He was with Mobil for 17 years leaving to become exploration manager with ARCO Oil & Gas. During this period he also wrote the training textbook for new hires and taught some of the classes.

Pat's last job before retirement in 1993 was The Joint Ventures Manager. He was responsible for buying and selling prospects to other companies.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years: Becky Dean Rotan; his son: Kelly Patrick Rotan, and grandson: Charles Wells Thomason.

He is also survived by cousins: Mary Pryor, Chrissy, Russell and Sonny Pryor, Kim and Eric Grondin, Annabel Ellis, Susan and Bill Hance, Larry and Kay Ellis, Billie Jean Bingham, David Bingham, Beth and Ben Light, Judy and Jim Mills, Danny and Estileda Dean, Mike, Teresa and Kate Dean, Roberta Dean, and the children and grandchildren of these cousins; and his special friends: Larry and Gwen Pipes, Larry and Bettye Kinnard, Ken and Katie Hood, Hala and Doug Watson, Christopher Jenkins, Patricia Rotan, and the members of the Beacon Light-Journey Sunday School Class.

He was preceded in death by his mother: Mary Buchanan Poyter; his father: Malone Robert Rotan; and father-in-law and mother-in-law: Willa and Charles Dean.

Visitation will be from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Friday at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, downtown.

Burial will be in Pineville, Ky., with a family graveside service.
