Virginia 'Ginny' Hubbard

Died: Aug. 11, 2013

Virginia "Ginny" Hubbard, 80, of Greeneville, passed away Sunday at Takoma Regional Hospital.

Born in Lawrence, Mass., she attended local schools and graduated from Felt and Tarrant Business School and McIntosh Business School in Boston.

She owned and managed Ginny's Needlecrafts in downtown Greeneville. She enjoyed all forms of needle work, especially machine knitting and hand- and machine-embroidery.

Ginny retired from the Diocese of Knoxville Media Center located in Greeneville in 2007.

She was active in the American Cancer Society and was involved in the start of the local Relay for Life.

Ginny had been involved in Reach to Recovery since 1979, both as coordinator for 29 years and as a volunteer visitor to breast cancer patients.

She was a longtime member of Notre Dame Catholic Church and the women's organization, Council of Catholic Women.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years: Thomas "Tom" Hubbard; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Scott Hubbard and Linda Skeen of Piney Flats, Doug and Wendy Hubbard of Buford, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law: Veronica and Tom Sim of Melbourne, Fla.; her grandchildren: Haley Hubbard and Matthew Hubbard; a sister: Eleanor Denaro of Brewster, Mass.; a special friend: Lydia Little; and too many other friends to mention.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and two sisters.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Notre Dame Catholic Church. The Rev. Jim Harvey will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Notre Dame Catholic Church building fund.
