Marie 'Hannah' Brown Wilhoit

Died: Aug. 14, 2013

Marie "Hannah" Brown Wilhoit, of Chuckey, passed away Wednesday. She was born July 24, 1920, in Greene County. She joined her husband, Hugh C. Wilhoit, who passed away Feb. 14, 1971.

Mrs. Wilhoit was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, who will be sorely missed by all.

She was a 1938 graduate of Chuckey High School and attended Johnson City Business College.

Mrs. Wilhoit was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and Women's WMCA, where they made several homemade quilts in years past.

She enjoyed cooking and lending a helping hand when someone was in need.

Survivors include her daughter: Mary Frances "Fran" and her husband, Richard N. Burgner, of Milligan College; her grandsons: Neil Burgner and wife, Margie, of Limestone, and Gerald Burgner and wife, Rebecca, of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister: Joyce Patton of Johnson City; her nieces: Karen Patton and Helen Potter of Johnson City, and Allie Reaves of Chuckey; her nephews: Ben Patton of Elgin, Ill., Robert "Bob" Patton of Johnson City, and Wayne Brown of Chuckey; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben H. and Ferbia Broyles Brown, and a brother, Arnold Brown.

The family extended a special thanks to her caregivers at Christian Care Center, Amedisys, Gerald and Rebecca Burgner, and Karen Patton for the compassion, care and love they gave, and to the Rev. Walter Isley, the Rev. Bill Greer, and the Rev. Terry Jones for their many visits.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service in Afton, with the funeral following at 7 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Joe Miller and the Rev. Dwight McPherson will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Cedar Grove UM Church Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard Burgner, Neil Burgner, Gerald Burgner, Ben Patton, Robert "Bob" Patton, and Wayne Brown.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Burgner, James Potter, and Andrew Patton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cedar Grove Cemetery Fund, c/o Ted Wilhoit, 2275 Old Jonesboro Road, Chuckey, TN 37641.
