Ben H. Kite Sr.

Died: Aug. 16, 2013

Ben H. Kite Sr., age 77, of Mohawk, died Friday afternoon at the Johnson City Medical Center.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force with rank of tech sergeant.

Mr. Kite was a licensed electrician and the owner/operator of Kite Catfish Farms in Mohawk.

He attended Day Star Assembly of God in Rogersville.

Mr. Kite was a life member of V.F.W. Post No. 5266 in Morristown and a life member of the Morristown Chapter of the D.A.V.

Ben loved his family and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years: Bobbie Kite; three children: Ben Kite Jr., Johnny Kite, and Sally Kite Long; nine grandchildren: Ray Matthews, Mary Morrisett, Zachary Kite, Coty Kite, Ben "Trey" Kite III, Tiffany Kite, Heather Long, Eric Long, and Gilbert Long; six great-grandchildren: Jasmin Bell, Jeffery Bell Jr., Alexus Matthews, Lilly Kite, Bentley Kite, and Madison McClellan; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by a daughter: Vickie Matthews; parents: Bert and Alpha Kite; four brothers; and two sisters.

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Mosheim Chapel of Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Stan Bradley officiated.

Morristown VFW Post No. 5266 conducted a military graveside service at 11 a.m. today at Providence (County Line) Cemetery.

Pallbearers were be grandsons and Cecil Matthews, Terry Bradley, and Jerritt Melton.

Danny Morrisett was an honorary pallbearer.
