Died: Aug. 22, 2013

Earl L. Campbell, 86, of Limestone, died at home Thursday after a period of gradually declining health.

Mr. Campbell served in U.S. Army Air Corps from 1945 to 1947 during the occupation of Japan.

He was a farmer.

Mr. Campbell had been a supervisor at Ball Metal and Chemical (now Jarden Zinc Products) and Tennessee Cellulose Insulation.

He was a past member of the Limestone Ruritan Club and the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Campbell was a member of Church of Christ and last attended Limestone United Methodist Church.

He was a NASCAR and football fan.

Survivors include a son: Lynn Campbell of Limestone; a daughter: Sharon Payne and husband, Gene, of Limestone; his grandchildren: Neil Campbell and wife, Tracy, of Baileyton, Deonne Campbell Duncan and husband, Jeff, of Greeneville, Phillip Campbell of Chapel Hill N.C., and Hannah Payne of Limestone; his great-grandchildren: Garrett Campbell, Taylor Campbell, and Jonathan Mitchum; his stepgreat-grandchildren: Austin Moss, Zachary Moss, Matthew Moss, Gage Duncan, and McKensie Duncan; and a special friend: Sue Hubbard of Greeneville.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Mildred Claunch Campbell; his father: Fred C. Campbell; his mother: Thelma Marshall Campbell; a sister: Helen Broyles; a nephew: Laird Broyles; a great-aunt: Dorothy J. Marshall; and a brother: Robert M. Campbell.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service in Afton with the funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Joe Miller and the Rev. Steven Spell will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Providence Cemetery.
