Died: Aug. 23, 2013

Robert Gibson, 76, of Roaring Fork Road, Greeneville, passed away Friday at his home.

He was a retired farmer and truck driver.

Mr. Gibson was a member of Union Free Will Baptist Church.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him. He was always happiest when his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were around him.

He loved working in his garden and tending to the many flowers around his home. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years: Shirley Gibson; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Earl and Kathy Gibson and Darrell Gibson of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law: Frances and Doug Cox and Sheila and Mike Penland, all of Greeneville; nine grandchildren: Missy and James Dalton, Tonya and Paul Williams, Nikki Johnson, Dougie and Brandi Cox of Washington County, Kim and John Starnes, Ricky Lee Jones, Daniel Jones, and Cody Cox, all of Greeneville; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister: Hazel Collins of Morristown; a half-brother: Tee Gibson of Sneedville; several nieces and nephews and their husbands and wives, whom he loved very much; and a special friend: Anthony Hayes

He was preceded in death by a daughter: Glenda (Susie) Jones; a brother: Raymond Gibson; and a nephew: Roger Gibson.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Mike Harmon and the Rev. Bill Franklin will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Cross Anchor Cemetery.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

The employees of Amedisys Hospice, friends, and family members will be honorary pallbearers.
