Mauveline Hayes Jeffers, 100, of Bowmantown, in Washington County, passed away Wednesday at the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was the widow of the Rev. E.B. Jeffers, an Evangelical United Brethren minister and then a United Methodist minister, when the two denominations merged.

Mrs. Jeffers had been an employee at Parks-Belk.

She was involved with the PTA at Northside and served in several offices.

Mrs. Jeffers was conference president of United Church Women of EUB Church and visited each church all over Tennessee once a year.

She was involved with the Girl Scouts and the Red Cross.

While serving at Otterbein UM Church in Johnson City, she was involved in the UMW, taught Sunday School for 28 years, and was the organist.

She was a member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church in Washington County, served two years as president of the UMW and as the organist.

Mrs. Jeffers also taught Sunday School at Meadowview.

She has also served as organist for Sand Branch UM Church in Knoxville and for Farris Funeral Chapel in Abingdon, Va.

Mrs. Jeffers was a member of the Sulphur Springs Extension Club.

She delivered meals on wheels.

For decades, she served as the "Washington County News" correspondent for The Greeneville Sun.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Lendell and Peggy Jeffers of Bowmantown; two daughters and a son-in-law: Betty Jo Mahoney of Johnson City and Pat and John Morley of Rogersville; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; several nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Rex and Helen Jeffers and Mary Ruth Jeffers.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Elaine Rose; her parents: Oscar and Emma Doty Hayes; and three brothers: William Hayes, John Robert Hayes and Charles Haven Hayes.

The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Sulphur Springs UM Church.

The funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. at the church with interment in the church. The Rev. Laura Jo Crawford, the Rev. Dwight Kenney, and the Rev. Ronald Davis will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Monte Vista Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Sandy Mahoney, Brian Mahoney, Mark Morley, Len Jeffers, Ralph Jeffers, Billy Rose, Jeff Mahoney, and Joe Mahoney.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robbie Rose, David Rose, Sharon Browder, Tricia Gray, and Maura Barnett.

Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
