Died: Oct. 8, 2013

Jimmie Norton, 72, of the White Sands Community, passed away Tuesday at his home.

He was a carpenter and a farmer.

Mr. Norton was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church.

He was an avid coon hunter, Braves fan, friend to all, and never met a stranger. He loved to trick people and tell jokes.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years: Shirley Dean Norton; a son and daughter-in-law: Wesley and Debbie Norton, his grandchildren: Eric Metcalf and wife, Cara, and Allen Norton, a sister: Annie June Davis, and a brother: Furman Norton, all of Greeneville; a sister-in-law: Wanda Arrington; two brothers-in-law: Arnold Massey and wife, Jerelene, and Lynn Massey and wife, Janie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was the son of the late S.V. and Hattie Cross Norton and was preceded in death by a sister: Magnalene Valentine; several half-brothers and half-sisters; a brother-in-law: Shelby Davis; and a sister-in-law: Patricia Norton.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Piney Grove FWB Church. The Rev. Junior Shipley and the Rev. Raymond Perry will officiate.

Interment will be in Piney Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Billy Darnell, Darryl Cantrell, George Cantrell, Frankie Tarlton, Jeff Darnell, and Billy Ricker.
