Mary W. Mahoney

Died: Oct. 7, 2013

WRENS, Ga. -- Mary Will Rader Mahoney, 75, of Avera, loving wife of 50 years to the late CW3 Robert E. Mahoney (retired), entered into rest Monday night at University Hospital.

One of two daughters born to the late Coreine Cruey Rader and the late Jay Rader, Mary grew up in Midway, Tenn., and was a member of the Eastern Star in her youth.

She married her true love in 1959, becoming a military wife and making her home in several different places, the last being in Augusta.

Upon his retirement, they made their home in Avera, where she was a city councilwoman for the past 20 years and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Mary loved her "old Southern" home, filling it with antiques and making it a safe haven for her family and her canine companion, Baby.

She had a deep faith, a strong will, a loving attitude, a generous spirit, a quick wit and an infectious laugh - people just automatically gravitated to her. A devoted mother and loyal friend, Mary will be forever in our hearts.

Survivors include her daughter: Barbara "Bobbi" Blair (Lee); a sister: Sandra Jones (Richard); two grandchildren: Scott Blair and Rachel Blair; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the James Funeral Home Chapel, 630 N Main St., Wrens, with the Rev. David Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Blair, Randy Gingery, Gary Kitchens, Jason Mathis, Tommy Sheppard, and Cliff Whitley.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6-8 this evening.

Memorial contributions may be made to Avera Volunteer Fire Dept, 9446 Broad St., Avera, GA 30803.
