Frank J. Tweed, 81, of the Fairview Community, passed away Wednesday at Laughlin HealthCare Center.

He was a longtime member of Bradburn Hill United Methodist Church, where he served in all the offices of the church and taught the Omega Sunday School class as long as his health would permit.

He served in the Korean War for two years.

He was employed at the U.S. Post Office in Greeneville for 23 years and was Post Master in Sneedville for five years.

After he retired, he sold Standard Life Insurance as long as his health would permit.

Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a good friend to many.

He is survived by his wife: L. Marie Hope Tweed; two sons and daughters-in-law: Steve and Janet Tweed of Madisonville and Allen and Shane Tweed of Afton; his grandchildren: Rebekah and Sarah Tweed, and Christopher, Kelsey and Cory Tweed; a sister: Silvia Eva Gaddis of Ohio; his sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law: Jack and Nepul Hope, Nannie Kate Hope, and Tootsie Hope; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: James Arvil and Low Della Tweed; two sisters: Vona Higgins and Verlie Tweed; and five brothers-in-law: Toney Gaddis, Edward Hope, Billy Joe and Robbie Hope, Eldon Hope, and H.M. Higgins.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 5-7 p.m. today at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, downtown. The Rev. Roger Crim will officiate.
