Vernon 'Cotton' Kilday

Died: Oct. 13, 2013

KINGSPORT -- Vernon "Cotton" Kilday, age 90, of Gray, entered into rest on Sunday at the Hospice House of Bristol.

Mr. Kilday was born in Greene County and was the son of the late Harrison and Maude Kilday.

He retired from Mountain Home, V.A. Medical Center.

Mr. Kilday proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army during the European and Philippine Theatres.

He was a lifelong member of the Gray, Tenn., chapter of the Masons and was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church.

He enjoyed baseball, horses and gardening.

He was the widow of Eula Mae Kilday, who died in 2007.

Survivors include his son: Greg Kilday and wife, Pat; his grandchildren: Zack Kilday and wife, Meghan, and Caroline Kilday, all of Atlanta, Ga.; his sister: Nancy Casteel of Baileyton; and several special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at East Lawn Funeral Home, 4997 Memorial Blvd., in Kingsport.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Garden of the Good Shepherd in East Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Charles W. Echols Jr., officiating. Everyone is asked to assemble at the gravesite by 9:45 a.m. for the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wellmont Bristol Hospice House, 280 Steeles Road, Bristol, TN 37620.
