Lawrence 'Larry' Hicks

Died: Dec. 16, 2013

Lawrence "Larry" Hicks, 75, of Greeneville, passed away Monday at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

He retired from the City of DeKalb Street Department after 35 years of service.

Larry was born Nov. 20, 1938 in Ramsey, Ill.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge in DeKalb, Ill., and Greeneville for many years.

He was an avid CB operator, where he was known as "Crazy Larry." He communicated often with several of his CB buddies.

Larry loved to go fishing with his fishing buddies.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Beverly Hicks of Greeneville; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Vickie and Mike Martha and Joellen and Winton Conatser of Greeneville and Cathie Zeiter of Cortland, Ill; a son: Jerry Hicks of DeKalb; eight grandchildren: Michael Martha, Cody Martha and wife, Casey, Rosalie Zeiter, Whitney Zeiter, Candy Hicks, J.R. Sherrill and wife, Tasha, Justin Sherrill and wife, Jessika, and Jeremy Sherrill; six great-grandchildren; a sister: Bernidine Coulter of Ramsey; a sister-in-law: Sue Smith and husband, Ray, of Sycamore, Ill.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and very close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother: John and Ruby Hicks; his mother and stepfather: Verda and Harold Wiltse; three sisters: Jean Lucke, Margie Hollifield, and Rosalene Hicks; brother: Melvin Hicks; grandchild: Wilma Jo Zeiter; great-grandchild: Gracelyn Sherrill; and his pet cat: Ottis; and his pet dog: Freckles.

There will be no formal visitation or funeral service. His body will be cremated.

The family expressed a special thanks to Dr. Brad Strange and staff, Dr. Stephen Flohr and staff, Dr. Dharmen Patel and staff, and Dr. Jason Carter and staff.

Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
