Earl W. Hensley, 73, of Greeneville, passed away Monday at his home surrounded by his family. Upon his passing, he was welcomed by Jesus into Heaven.

Mr. Hensley believed in God, family, country, and retired as lieutenant colonel from the Tennessee Army National Guard after 35 years of service.

He was a Godly man, who loved the Lord, and was always known to help others and made sacrifices so that others could have more.

He enjoyed animals and strays were drawn to him.

Survivors include his wife: Martha Jane "Mott" (Lowe) Hensley, who was his "sweetie" and love of his life for 53 years; one son and daughter-in-law: Tim and Renee Hensley of Jonesborough; one granddaughter: Denise Jane Hensley of Greeneville; one grandson: Joseph Hensley of Jonesborough; stepgrandchildren: Kaitlyn Morris and John Paul Morris, both of Jonesborough; one brother and sister-in-law: Lester and Jeannie Hensley of Austin, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law: Jenny and Doug Hornsby of Butler; special nieces: Jeana Helton and her husband, Mark, of Tusculum, and Amy Rollins of Kingsport; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Shirley and J.D. Ashley of Mohawk, George Lowe Jr. of Greeneville, and Ann and Bill Chandley of Virginia Beach, Va.; nieces and nephews: Donita and Andy Jeffers of Russellville, Jonita and David Pauley of Tusculum, Nick and Lisa Chandley, Nathan and Laura Chandley all of Virginia Beach, and Laura and Mike Voiles of Greeneville, and Laura Hensley of Jonesborough; several special great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends and neighbors: Bill Adams, Bill Conduff, Jimmy Rich, Lois Underhill, and Allen Kyker; two very special couples: Dot and Dan Culton and Patty and Joe Duncan; very special family members: Betty Scott and son, Jerry Scott. He had special pets: his beloved dogs: Smokey and Lucky; and cats: Princess and Socks.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Scott and Pauline Hensley; brother: Donald Hensley; nephew: Russell Hensley; and father-in-law and mother-in-law: George and Mary Ruth Lowe.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society or to the charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. Tim Hensley, the Rev. Jim Fillers, and the Rev. Larrie Pike will officiate.

Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens with the Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard military honors team conducting a military graveside service.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Mark Helton, Doug Hornsby, Joe Hensley, Bryon Hensley, Tim Hensley, J.D. Ashley, Bob Tallman, and Chris Hulber.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Daniels, Dan Culton, Dan McLean, Joe Hickerson, Tommy Collins, Lowell Collins, Johnny Collins, Ivan Collins, Jerry Collins, and Jerry Scott.
