Died: Dec. 18, 2013

JOHNSON CITY -- Don Thompson, 82, Jonesborough, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday at Lakebridge Heath Care Center.

Mr. Thompson was a native of Johnson City and a lifelong Washington County resident.

He was a son of the late Charles Elmer and Ruby Blevins Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He retired from H.T. Hackney, Co., as a salesman in 1995 after 41 years of service.

Mr. Thompson was a member of Locust Street Church of Christ.

He loved animals, especially dogs.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his first wife: Mary B. Thompson, in 1984; two brothers: Jack and Bill Thompson, and one sister: Louise White.

He is survived by his wife: Joyce Thompson; his daughter: Lisa Thompson Belt of Johnson City; two brothers: James T. Thompson and wife, Jeanette, Nakomis, Fla., and Luther Thompson of Jonesborough; one sister: Shirley Byrd Morrison of Johnson City; two grandsons: Richie Belt and Travis Thompson, both of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday from the East Chapel of the Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Ave., Johnson City, with Billy Jack Smith and Richard Lewis, ministers, officiating.

Special music will be provided by Gill Moody and Roddy Bird.

The family will receive friends in the East Parlor of the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Friday prior to the service.

A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Monte Vista Memorial Park.

Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Saturday to proceed to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be selected from nephews and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Locust Street Church of Christ, 110 W. Locust St., Johnson City, TN 37604.
