William Winfred Bailey

Died: Jan. 2, 2014

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness." 2 Timothy 4:7-8.

William Winfred Bailey, 88, of Jonesborough, passed away Thursday at Four Oaks Health Care Center.

He proudly served in World War II.

Mr. Bailey retired from Ball (now Jarden) Zinc Products.

He was a member of Limestone Free Will Baptist Church, where he had attended while his health permitted. He was a Sunday School teacher.

He loved farming and gardening and his family and friends. He enjoyed gospel music and baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands: Judy and Paul Fritts and Patti and Charlie Phillips; two sons: David Bailey and Randy Bailey and his wife, Lisa; his grandchildren: Steve and Scarlett Fritts, Brian and Melissa Fritts, Patrick Phillips, and Wayne and Johnathon Bailey, and a stepgranddaughter: Sunnie Shelton; great-grandchildren: Matthew, Jeremiah, and Emily Fritts, and Levee and Shealynn Shelton; a sister: Arlene Mitchell of Bowmantown; and several nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much.

He was born in Madison N.C., and was a son of the late Arcemus and Mamie Edwards Bailey.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Harvey Bailey, Vestal Bailey, and Fred Bailey; five sisters: Ana Mae Hensley, Bethel Arrowood, Anza Hall, Mary Jane Crane, and an infant; and a grandson: David Paul Phillips.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. today at Limestone FWB Church.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. The Rev. Tim Broyles, the Rev. Tim Roach, and the Rev. Alfred Cutshall will officiate.

Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Greene County Honor Guard will convey military honors at the graveside.

Pallbearers will be Steve Fritts, Brian Fritts, Patrick Phillips, Wayne Bailey, Gay Crane, and Marion Lee Bailey.

Johnathon Bailey will be an honorary pallbearer.

The family expressed special thanks to Dr. Colelan and Dr. Parks and staff of the V.A. Medical Center at Mountain Home, to his neighbors at Bethel housing and all the staff at Four Oaks Healthcare, and to Amie Rice and all the other caregivers.
