Eurie Louis Elliott Jr.

Died: Dec. 31, 2013

Eurie "Nib" Louis Elliott Jr., 91, longtime resident of Van Wert, Ohio, and currently a resident of Greeneville, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013.

He was born on Nov. 19, 1922, in Hicksville, Ohio, the son of the late Eurie Louis Elliott Sr. and Ermyle (Saylor) Elliott. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia Jeanne (Kinnan) Elliott, and his stepson, Robert Kevin Thieroff.

Professionally, Nib was a successful salesman and businessman having worked in the building industry as a partner at Wortman Brothers.

While residing in Van Wert, he was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on various committees as well as teaching Sunday School classes.

He volunteered in numerous civic groups that promoted economic development and improved quality of life for the residents of Van Wert.

He enjoyed fishing, boating and golf, especially with his family. He felt that giving back to his community and helping others was a personal responsibility not only for himself but for all Americans.

After retiring in 1978, he lived in Florida and then moved to Greeneville. During his residence in Greeneville, he was employed by Landair Corp.

In May 2012, World War II Veteran Eurie Louis Elliott Jr. was accepted into the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor. Other military honors awarded him were the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead.

He served in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Sharon Thieroff Elliott, are his two daughters: Nikki (Elliott) Niswonger and her spouse, Scott, and Nan (Elliott) Key and her spouse, Ken, all of Greeneville. He also has two stepdaughters: Gail (Thieroff) Dumire, and her spouse, Doug, of Defiance, Ohio, and Laurie (Thieroff) Perez and her spouse, Jerry, of Fort Wayne, Ind.

His grandchildren include E.J. (Leslie) Creutzinger of Greeneville, Karla Gentry of Dandridge, Patrick (Susan) Creutzinger of Fayetteville, Ga., Christopher Rodriguez of Johnson City, Sarah Creutzinger of Santiago, Chile, Robert Tyler (Tabitha) Young of Fort Wayne, Jody (David) Bender, Lisa (Michael) Grubb, and Matt (Heather) Dumire, all of Defiance, and Erika Dumire of Napoleon, Ohio. His great-grandchildren are Tyler Gentry, Trevor Gentry, Nate Creutzinger, Aubrey Creutzinger, Elle Creutzinger, Madison Rodriguez, Lily Young, Kameron Xayyachack, Graf Creutzinger and Ava Grubb.

His nieces and nephews include Skip Kinnan, Darryl Kinnan, Denise (Kinnan) Rendleman, Don Kinnan and Dina Kinnan.

A private memorial service is being planned.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice, Inc. of Greeneville, the Van Wert VFW Post No. 5803 of Van Wert, Ohio, or a local VFW.
