Charlotte Easterly Burns, 83, of Greeneville, passed away Thursday at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Burns was a retired school teacher.

She was a member of Hunt's Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Burns was so well thought of by her students. This kept her going as they included her, in her later years, in activities and by calling and visiting her often.

She was a strong Christian lady who practiced her faith and was spiritually prepared to meet her Lord.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Tommy and Jeanne Burns of Greeneville; a daughter and son-in-law: Becky and Wayne Erwin of Lebanon; her grandchildren and spouses: Joel and Jody Burns, Justin and Jessica Burns, Walt and Sara Erwin, and David and Tara Erwin; her great-grandchildren: Grayson Burns, Lawson Burns, Simon Burns, Kaylie Burns, Mackenzie Burns, Lily Erwin, Will Erwin and Wyatt Erwin; one sister: Beulah Myers of Greeneville; a sister-in-law: Maxine Easterly of Greeneville; a very special friend: Tommy Carroll; her special caregiver: Phyllis Laster; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and an abundance of friends.

She was the daughter of the late Joe E. and Wilma Easterly and was preceded in death by her husband, Carl "Pete" Burns; a grandson: Wayne Erwin Jr.; two sisters: Helen Hogan and Susie Barger; and two brothers: Joe Bob Easterly and Sam Easterly.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hunt's Chapel UM Church with Joel Burns and Sam Smith officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Lintz, Randy Lintz, Ryan Holt, Don Sauceman, Danny Myers, and Jerry Laughlin.

The family expressed heartfelt thanks to Dr. Brad Strange and staff and to the third-floor nurses at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Greeneville-Greene County Community Ministries Food Pantry, 107 N. Cutler St., Greeneville, TN 37743 or to Hunt's Chapel UM Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Maxine Easterly, 3635 Newport Highway, Greeneville, TN 37743.
