Died: Jan. 10, 2014

Bill F. Grubbs, 86, of Chuckey, passed away Friday at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Grubbs retired from Magnavox after 42 years of service.

He was an avid tobacco and cattle farmer as long as his health permitted. He loved tinkering on old cars and swapping stories with friends and neighbors.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law: Cindy and Gary Chapman; three granddaughters and spouses: Glenea and Joe Lister, Ashley and Devin Lowe, and Caitlin and Bill Rambo; two great-grandchildren: Devyn Lister and Jordan Lister; two nieces: Jane Moore and Priscilla Westmoreland; a nephew: Tommy Haney; his companion of 30 years: Christine Miller, with whom he made his home for the past several years; her children and spouses: Tammy and Mike Metcalf, Sharon and Steve Harmon, and Mike and Cindy Miller; several of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a special little buddy: Steven Harmon; and a special caregiver whom he thought of as a daughter: Patsy Hensley.

He was a son of the late George and Pearl Baxley Grubbs and was preceded in death by a daughter: Carol D. Webb; a sister: Dorothy Haney; and a brother: Dudley Grubbs.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, Afton Chapel.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Afton Chapel with interment in Stone Dam Cemetery. The Rev. Donnie Shelton will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Mike Metcalf, Mike Miller, Steve Harmon, Steven Harmon, Josh Harmon, Randy Westmoreland, Tommy Haney, and Landon Haney.
