Joseph Warren Hensley May 3, 2008 UPLAND, Ind. -- Joseph Warren Hensley, 91, died early Saturday morning at Heritage Pointe in Warren. He was born Oct. 23, 1916, in Greeneville, Tenn., and was a son of the late Franco and Ella (Hopson) Hensley. He attended Greeneville schools. Mr. Hensley married the former Nola "Helen" Travis, who preceded him in death on June 18, 1990. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving Sept. 25, 1940 to June 30, 1945, with Company B 4th Engineers Battalion. Mr. Hensley was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. He had been a local resident since 1948, moving from Greeneville. Mr. Hensley was a former member of the American Legion Post No. 10, Marion, AMVETS, and the Gas City Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was employed with patient care at the Indiana Northern Regional Veteran's Hospital in Marion for more than 25 years, retiring in 1975. "He enjoyed upholstering furniture," his family noted. Survivors include three sons and their wives: Paul and Pam Hensley of Upland, Joseph and "Piper" Hensley of Liberty, Texas, and Leonard and Peggy Hensley of Losantville; three daughters and their husbands: Wanda and Tom Jones and Marilyn and Kevin Lavanchy, all of Montpelier, and Rosa and Clyde Kaemmerer of Piqua, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brent Hensley. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Jones-Smith Funeral Home in Upland. The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Gardens of Memory in Muncie, Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Pointe, 801 Huntington Ave., Warren, IN, or to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana, 265 W.
