Virginia Loven Kirby, 93, died Thursday at Laughlin Healthcare Center.

Mrs. Kirby attended Salem Presbyterian Church as long as her health permitted and then began attending Towering Oaks Baptist Church.

She was employed by Laughlin Memorial Hospital and then by Greene Valley Developmental Center.

She was a graduate of Greeneville Hospital Nursing School and Washington College Academy, and attended the University of Maryland and Stratton College in Baltimore.

Mrs. Kirby belonged to the Greeneville Chapter of the Eastern Star and the Greeneville Nurses Association.

Survivors include: her nieces and their spouses: Jo Ruth and Lester Hughes of Johnson City, Sarah Payne of Greeneville, and Lois Suttles of Atlanta; her nephews and their spouses: Thomas and Anne Payne of Georgia, Jacob and Fay Boone of Johnson City, Donald Anderson of Johnson City, and Harry Anderson of Piney Flats; a special great-niece and her husband: caregivers Pat and David Hensley of Greeneville; her great-great nieces and great-great-nephews: Dave Hensley, Libby Scott, and Donnie and Daniel Lundy, all of Greeneville; several more great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews; and a special friend: Sherry Wright.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Kirby; her parents: John McDonald and Sarah Bristol Loven; and her four sisters: Hettie Payne, Mary Ricker, Anna Anderson and Ruby Humphrey.

The family will receive friends at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 11, in the chapel of Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. Dr. James K. Pierce III will officiate.

Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery at Washington College.

Active pallbearers will be: Dave Hensley, Jonah Scott, Donnie Lundy, Daniel Lundy, Michael Payne and Larry Hensley.

Honorary pallbearers will be caregivers of Caris Hospice, the staff of Laughlin Healthcare Center, and Dr. Maynard Austin.
