J.T. "Buck" Dixon

Died: May 12, 2008

J. T. "Buck" Dixon, 80, of Carters Valley Road, Mosheim, died Monday at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Dixon retired as a truck driver for Greeneville Lumber Co.

He was a a charter member and former pastor of Wood's Memorial Church. At the time of his death, he was the oldest member of the church.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years: Elizabeth Britton Dixon; two nephews: Bobby Britton and Danny Britton, both of Mosheim, whom he raised; five sisters and two brothers-in-law: Malcina Blake, Lula Mae Harris, Ireen and J. B. Renner, Marie Brown, and Mary Frank and Hartsell Harmon, all of Greene County; a foster brother: Gary Carter of the home; three sisters-in-law: Vera Dixon, Judy Britton, and Phyllis Britton, all of Greene County; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece and nephew: Jammie Britton and Sammy Britton; and a special great-niece: Mickaylee Hill.

He was a son of the late Elbert M. and Nora Cutshall Dixon and was preceded in death by five brothers: Porter Dixon, Major Dixon, General Dixon, and two infants; and two sisters: Una Dixon and an infant.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today and Thursday at Kiser Funeral Home.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 8 o'clock Thursday evening in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Faye Lynn Ricker and the Rev. Carl Gregg will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:45.

His nephews will be pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the congregation of Wood's Memorial Church and his many fellow ministers.
